  • ABOUT Battery Park City

Battery Park City is a neighborhood in Lower Manhattan in New York City, bounded by Chambers Street to the north, West Street to the east, Pier A to the south, and the Hudson River to the west. It is adjacent to the neighborhoods of Tribeca and the Financial District. Battery Park City is one of New York's newest and most comprehensively planned neighborhoods. Original planning for the area began in the 1970s, when the land on which it sits was created with soil excavated during the construction of the World Trade Center. Construction in Battery Park City began in the 1980s and continued until the late 2000s, with the neighborhood completed just a few years ago. Current residential neighborhoods of Battery Park City are divided as north and south sections, with the World Financial Center office complex sitting in the middle. The buildings in the southern section tend to be older, while the large buildings of the northern section have mostly been built since the 9/11 attacks, though most buildings in both areas have luxury amenities. With trees and greenery throughout the neighborhood, Battery Park City contains an abundance of parks and recreation spaces, including a waterfront esplanade that connects to Hudson River Park, as well as Teardrop Park, Nelson A. Rockefeller Park, Robert F. Wagner Park, the North Cove Marina, and several playing fields. Cultural attractions such as the Irish Hunger Memorial, Skyscraper Museum, and Museum of Jewish Heritage are located in Battery Park City. The neighborhood features numerous restaurants, including Danny Meyer's North End Grill, Shake Shack, and Blue Smoke. The World Financial Center will soon feature a new shopping arcade that will bring high-end fashion brands to Battery Park City.
